Learning in Partnership
As well as training its own volunteers in their various roles, DCP, in partnership with funders, provides courses and organises events to inform and educate on a range of topics for all the community. Previous events have included mental health, addictions, bereavement and the needs of people with dementia.
We are currently running a series of events called “Supporting People Affected by…”. The days consist of input from experts in the particular area, seminars, discussion groups and time to ask questions.

The next Effective Listening Course will take place at the start of November…
The course will comprise 3 sessions:
Friday 11th November, Saturday 12th November & Saturday 19th November // All 9am-3.30pm
Venue: Elvet Methodist Church, Durham
The course comprises a small group of participants, from various backgrounds, and includes topics such as ‘active listening skills’, ‘non-verbal communication, ‘barriers to good listening‘, ‘the whole self as listener’, ‘managing silence’, ‘recognising and managing our own limitations’, ‘looking after ourselves’, and ‘appropriate onward referral’. Throughout the sessions, questions and discussion are encouraged, and there are opportunities to practise skills in a safe, supportive environment.
There is no set charge as DCP wants to make the day accessible for all. Participants are asked to contribute to the cost of running the day based on what they are able to give.
